Until he finally got away from his father. He didn't get the time or money he needed to fully transition, so all he had at Stanford was HRT, a binder, and a dream, but he made it work. He passed well, didn't have to correct people into calling him "Mr" or "Sir", he had a girlfriend that loved him for who he was... And then Dean showed up, and he lost it all.

Grian barely remembers his old life until he stumbles across his dad at a pub. It’s a somewhat shady place, dim lighting and loud music covering up the potent stench of cheap beer. Air misty and thick despite smoking being banned decades ago. The sort of place Grian has been frequenting lately, trying to pluck up the courage to meet new people, or possibly score some work.
It’s also, unofficially, a bit of a queer hotspot.
Which makes it weird that he finds Scar—his dad—sitting at the bar, nursing a pint, and chatting with another guy. For a moment, Grian doesn’t believe it. He thinks maybe he’s just seeing things, or that it’s someone who simply looks like his dad. Because dad would never come to a place like this. At this hour. To talk to a man who is leaning against the bar in a rather flirtatious manner.
