    Yassen resists the urge to sigh. There are days when he wishes that he had run back to Russia, disappeared into its unforgiving winters and buried himself into Moscow’s streets, and today is not a day he expected to feel such a thing.

    It does not take much for Alex Rider's life to fall apart in his hands. He copes, wheedling information about his late uncle and pretending to be fine with the missions MI6 sends him on. Now, if only that one Russian assassin would stop preventing him from taking revenge on his uncle's murderer...

    “Wait,” Alex said as he realised Yassen was still carrying the sleepy bird in his arms and didn’t seem to have any immediate plans to stop. “Are you kidnapping a chicken?”

    Yassen looked over at him and raised an eyebrow. “No, of course not.”

    “You’re literally holding it. Right in front of me.”

    “Yes? Because he is my chicken.”

    “No he’s not!”

     

    After overhearing a suspicious phone call from a stranger, Alex goes to investigate a rural farmhouse. He suspects a plot, a new scheme to take over the world. What he finds is a chicken. Oh, and Yassen Gregorovich is there too.

    AKA the Yassen Gregorovich has retirement chickens fic. Cluck cluck.

    "Why did you do that?" he asks, a little blankly. "Why did you pull him out of school for weeks, why are you guilting him into doing what you want again? Do you know that half the school thinks my best friend uses drugs now?"

    Takeshi is tired of seeing his friends pushed into the unforgiving maws of the underworld. Tom smiles at Alex and leads him away, trying not to scare Alex away for caring too much.
