Summary
The first time Alec Lightwood met Gabriel Engelhorn, bets had run through the Institute about how long it would take for Alec to either hit him or ship him off somewhere else.
No one expected them to get along as well as they did. Or for Gabriel to meet Magnus, and for the two of them to strike up a friendship that could terrify the hearts of lesser beings. But after a few months, it was hard for Alec and Magnus to picture a life without him in it.
But when Alec gets kidnapped, some truths come to light that show that maybe they don't know their new friend quite so well as they thought. But, they're willing to try, if he's willing to let them.

“Don’t even think about it, Kiddo,” Gabriel said firmly. “You’re nowhere near done down here. You’ve got too much left to do. Plus, I’m one-up on you. You really wanna just let me take the win like that?”
The light grew stronger and stronger until Magnus was almost blinded by it. The sound of rustling feathers grew even louder.
Gabriel let out a low growl that reverberated through their very bones and shook the walls of the bunker they were in. “Like hell if I’m letting you have him, you sanctimonious little prick. He’s not yours!” A faint ringing started to echo through the room. Magnus had just long enough to catch a glimpse of Gabriel smacking his free hand over Alec’s chest before the man, angel, was snapping out, “Everyone, shut your eyes. Now!”

Summary
Coda Fic to Never Judge A Shadowhunter By Their Scent written by the delightful Aria Lerendeair.
Selected moments from Isaiah's POV.
~
Lighting the small candle, Isaiah centers it on the altar and stares at the wavering flame for a long moment. For the first time since his wife’s death, Isaiah feels a single tear slip down the crags of his scarred cheek.
He drops heavily to his knees before the altar and looks up towards the silent angel above him, vision blurring.
“Zadkiel,” Isaiah prays, pleads, his voice rough and hoarse, “Angel of mercy and benevolence, I beg you tonight to watch over your child, Alexander Lightwood. He has survived everything the angels have seen fit to test him with, but please, please do not make this night one more thing he has to survive.”

Bookmarker's Notes
“I spent last night on my knees,” Isaiah answers, “begging for Zadkiel to show his mercy, pleading that the cost Alec had promised to pay for his people’s lives would not break him in a way from which he may never recover.”
Bane is blinking rapidly in front of him now, suppressed emotion brightening his eyes in a liquid shimmer.
“And today, my-“ Isaiah pauses for a breath before continuing, but hiding behind loyalty and duty is useless when the only reason he sits here is love. “Today my heart-child, my son, comes back from the home of the alpha who bought his services and declares him his True Mate. Declares that they are going to change the world together.” He breathes in, muscles tense.
“And so I came here to find out truly if the Angel of Mercy has answered my prayers or if my duty as his Second, to support him and preserve the peace, must be weighed against my duty as his..” And Isaiah trails off because naming Alec as his son is somehow different than naming himself as Alec’s .. father.
“As the one who raised him and as the Alpha He Looks To,” Magnus finishes for him, the latter description a clear title, a parental title from a race where nearly all familial relationships are by choice and adoption.

Summary
Magnus Bane, High Warlock of the Downworld, has sworn, after the Second Uprising, to never work with the Clave again, and has banned any warlock from doing so.
However, when the New York Institute refuses to respect that, and continues attempting to contact him, Magnus takes a moment to personally dismiss them.
Only then, the Head of the New York Institute offers the impossible - a night with a virgin, unclaimed omega in return for the healing of their people. Furious, and ready to kill the Head of the Institute for daring to offer up an omega like that, Magnus accepts the offer, fully intending to rescue the poor omega.
It turns out, however, that he's underestimated the Head of the New York Institute - Alec Lightwood.

Bookmarker's Notes
Alec growled, low in his throat. "You think I'm not in full control of myself right now?"
"I think," Magnus said. "If you're even half as scent-drunk as I am, you can't make a safe judgment call." He whined and closed his eyes, tightening his hands on Alec's shoulders. "I don't, I want you to want this." He didn't add the unsaid word. That he wanted Alec to be sure, to be sure of him just as much.
Alec softened and reached out to cup the alpha's chin in his hand, searching his eyes for a long moment. "I have a way for you to trust me. Trust that I want this. Want you, alpha." He took a shaky breath. "What's your favorite coffee order from the shop on the corner?"
Magnus blinked at the non-sequitur. "What?"
Alec pulled back from the alpha with another small whine and stalked to the door, shoving his feet into his boots, not bothering with his socks. "Coffee. What do you normally get?"
"A Venti Americano," Magnus said, still blinking. "Why?"
"I'll be back in ten minutes," Alec said, taking one more brief inhale, stopping at the door to turn to look at Magnus. "Let me back in, all right?"
