V nebi se slaví Silvestr. Petronel pomáhá s přípravami, roznáší tácy a rozlévá víno. Uriáš sedí u stolu docela sám a marně si namlouvá, že by si anděl našel byť jen trochu času na popovídání, jako si ho nenašel už několik předchozích měsíců. Popíjí tedy víno a snaží se rozptýlit své chmurné myšlenky, když vtom ho napadne jedna kulišárna. Ukecá pána Boha, aby Petronelovi dal konečně volno a odtáhne Petronela mimo ostatní, k jejich Nebeské bráně. Tam ukecá Petronela na svlíkací Mariáš, jakožto hru, která by přece neměla chybět na žádné oslavě. Petronel se chvilku vzpouzí, ale když Uriáš slíbí, že nebude podvádět, nechá se teda ukecat. Uriáš stejně podvádět nechce, protože chce vidět Petronelovu reakci na to, když se začne sám svlíkat.
