Summary
Nothing is left for Robert in Warsaw.
Disappointed parents, a broken engagement, and a secret that will unravel and destroy everything unless he contains it, and contains it fast, he decides (or rather, his father does) to leave for a newly changing Germany. Unfulfilled promises, Robert thinks, will hurt less if he puts the Oder - Neisse line between them.
But fate has other plans for him.

New York is as lonely as it is crowded. Skyscrapers rise and rivers flow freely, as do the wide - eyed migrants entering this city of dreams.
Lupe, however, is far from wide - eyed. A sporting career cut short, a job that grinds her down, and a daughter, who, if her parents had their way, would forget her existence entirely. New York is freedom, but god, is it lonely.
But one day, the god she doesn't believe in sends her a sign.
