Summary
After confirming his orders and that he would report within three days, Jake numbly hung up the phone. He started going through the familiar motions of a new deployment. He went online and bought himself a one way ticket to California for that night and began throwing his things in his duffle. It wasn’t until he made it to the airport and onto his flight that his mind began to race. His mind went to a place he rarely let himself go, a time before everything came crashing down around him. A time where they were happy and in love. A time where he could see his future so clearly. But inevitably, as it always did, these thoughts became clouded by the pain of that last night. And for the first time in two years, Jake knew without a shadow of a doubt that he was going to see him again. So he steeled himself during his flight. Began to restore his mask, piece by piece, until Jake felt like his heart was carefully hidden away. Because Jake Seresin may have loved Bradley Bradshaw, but Hangman had never loved anyone.

Bradshaw looks at him like he’s the dumbest man alive, his gaze sharpening with condescension. “You’re my engineer, I know who you are.”
“So sue me for being polite.”
His jaw works, but after an interminable second he steps forward and takes Jake’s hand. “Bradley.”
Jake hangs onto the handshake for an extra second and smirks. “Such an honor to meet you in person. The king of IndyCar, finally gracing us with his presence here in F1. Can’t believe it.”

Summary
Bradley Bradshaw returns to consciousness with a gasp, hand going to his side, where a searing pain makes itself known.
"-ster, hey," Jake snaps, holds his face in both hands and forces him to look his way, "breathe."
Bradley does as he's told, as painful as it is, and his vision clears somewhat. Jake's crouched beside him, concern etched on his face, and what happened comes back to him in flashes.
The mission going sideways at every possible turn, seeing Jake's plane get shot down in the sky, the less than smooth emergency landing in the woods that followed.
