    Before inpatient and treatment and one nutritionist after the next, three-meals-a-day, exercise in moderation—
    That phone call.
    He thinks about it.
    He thinks—
    “Love, is everything alright?”
    Kind, caring, he doesn’t deserve—
    The self-doubt would eat him alive if he let it.
    Instead, he gnaws on perfectly pink lips. Taps their finger in intervals of nine. Holds their breath, releases, and breathes again.
    “Love?”
    It’s concerned and kind and far too nice and sweet and caring because here he is cared for, here he is—

    “How do you feel about a trip to Japan?”
