Draco Malfoy only wanted to jump straight into the family business and begin clearing the Malfoy name of its unsavoury associations after getting his NEWT scores. As Fate would have it, he would be once again stripped of his choice. Presenting as a male Veela on his 18th birthday, Draco is the first in over 200 years. He is also most vulnerable.
With one half of the castle enamoured with him and the other half resenting him for the Dark Mark on his arm, he decided to keep his head low, his grades up, and comply with the strict restrictions the Ministry enforced on him for the length of his parole. It was hard enough to ignore the temperamental, beastly side of him, therefore a plot to exploit the legal system and enact an ancient curse was the last thing he needed on his already heavy and winged shoulders.
Then there was Granger. Someone with whom he had no real desire to move past civility. Yet, his Veela had other ideas once she became his only lifeline.

He clutches his cookie and ignores the shower of crumbs littering his grey cashmere fingerless gloves.
He can’t decide if he wants to fuck this girl or fight with her. Maybe both? Maybe at the same time?
“So—you’re upset,” he says with a nonchalant nod and discreet adjustment of his slightly too-tight khaki corduroys.
She blinks at him, her expression alternating between indignation and incredulity and flat-out fury.
He had been right about her being pretty beneath the intimidation tactics.

As she looked around her living room - at the green velvet ottoman she didn't remember purchasing, the 14th century Wizarding texts on her bookshelf, the hideous and obnoxiously ostentatious grandfather clock that could only belong to a Malfoy - she pictured the toothbrush next to hers on her bathroom counter, the old Slytherin quidditch jersey she regularly tripped over in her bedroom, and the mint chocolate chip ice cream in her freezer - a flavour she abhorred, but that a particular, pale, pointy faced aristocrat sat across from her had a tragic fondness for.
Her chest burning, as if she drank a barrel of bubotuber pus, Hermione turned to him with narrowed, accusing eyes. "Malfoy...are we dating?"
If there's one thing Hermione Granger knows, it's that she simply doesn't have time to date. Draco decides to date her, anyway.
