He glanced back up to her face, her blue eyes wide and shiny, her cheeks flushed despite the poor evening lighting, her lips pink and swollen due to worrying them between her teeth. Colin felt like he could barely breathe. Suddenly, she was tempting him in a way he had been tempted by other women. It was the same feeling he got when he met a beautiful woman at a bar or when meeting up with a tinder date.
But this was different, this was Penelope.
“I don’t ignore you on purpose,” he said softly, his voice a bit lower than he expected. Her entire presence was confusing him.
“You have a funny way of showing it.” She leaned her back against the tree, letting out a sigh and pressing her head against the trunk. He was absolutely done for. The way her neck extended, the expanse of her throat just begging for his lips. Her chest still heaving, each inhalation thrusting her breast up where the moonlight was so helpfully casting shadows in all the right dips and bulges, making her look like a siren.

Summary
The Bridgertons are all jetting off to the Scottish Highlands for Christmas and Penelope Featherington is coming with them this year. She's a close family friend and gets along famously with each and every member (young and old) with one significant exception-- the third eldest son, Colin Bridgerton. They may have been best friends as children, but now, in their mid and late twenties, they couldn't be further from friends. These days they can't even be in the same room with one another without trading verbal jabs that intensify steadily until someone literally has to pull them apart. After a lot of deliberation, though, Penelope accepts Violet's invitation despite this fact. She figures they'll be staying in a huge house and there will be a crowd of other people to distract herself with.
