2 months went by and Peter was fairly sure of one thing: Ironman was going easy on him. The villain didn't let Peter come too close, but he didn't shoot Peter at all if it wasn't in self defense. Unlike with the other Avengers, whom Ironman shot with any chance he got. Peter suspected it was because of his age; it was always because of his age. But, he was fine with it, really.
OR: What if Ironman never came back as a hero? What if the villain Ironman appeared, but began to gain a soft spot for a certain spider themed vigilante over time..?

This story is a what if where Tony makes one change, which opens up new opportunities. One among them is an earlier proposal of marriage to Pepper than canonical. That is one among many many many facets of the story, it is not the main point of the story. Tony gains a support system, while other people lose theirs. Tony explores possibilities to defend the Earth. Tony gains allies.

Summary
After losing Pepper to Extremis, Tony decides to get the shrapnel (and thus his arc reactor) removed-- but he wakes up as President of the United States.
Tony's heart surgery is the last thing he remembers, a worst-case amnesia scenario that leaves the country with a leader who doesn't remember the last year of office, the election, or his marriage to the First Lady, Natasha Romanoff Stark. Summary
Following his infamous breakdown, Tony Stark kills the Avengers, devastates New York then disappears. The world declared him dead. Years later, Peter Parker stumbles across the man during an ill-timed mugging, witnessing first-hand the raw power of the great Tony Stark, and even several years after the disaster, Peter found his anger is still prominent.
Though, despite Peter’s open hatred for his former hero, Tony wasn’t deterred. Instead, something drew him to Peter, and in turn Peter grows to see the real man behind the mask. And that man just might end up changing his view of the world as he knew it.
