Izuku's gaze turned skeptical. "You've been on edge since I showed up, Kacchan. It's okay, I understand. Having me as your responsibility is bad enough, but having a random omega hanging off your arm must have put a damper on your day."
"You're not a random omega!" Katsuki protested. He sounded agitated, shifting his stance uncomfortably. He dropped his gaze to his feet and raked his hand through his hair. "Fuck, I'm messing this up," he muttered. Izuku's nostrils flared as the scent of distress reached him—small but startlingly present.
He whined, shuffling closer to the alpha. He hadn't meant to upset him even more. "Kacchan?"
"I'm...I'm bad at this shit, Deku."

Every year, there's a festival at the summit, celebrating the darkest day of the year, and the light that's promised to follow. It's been years since Izuku has been to the festival—but this year, his mother insists. Even though he's going there to work, he hopes beyond reason that he'll get to see Kacchan again.

It’s Valentine's Day in Aldera Junior High. Or might as well call it for what it is: Judgement Day.
Truly just a cruel game of popularity that Izuku will never not be the loser in. The number of chocolates and gifts he receives makes it clear how many people like him: none. The only consolation Izuku has is that Kacchan never receives any chocolates on Valentine’s Day either.

Kacchan was his first everything. His first love, first kiss, first time, first date and first heartbreak. It didn't matter if he tore Izuku's heart to shreds or left it on the battlefield ground, flailing and shattered, he was always going to choose Kacchan. He would tear himself apart over and over again just for the chance to try again at loving him. Because he was going to get it right.
