Suddenly, his hand tightens into a soft fist, entangling your hair tautly and turning your face toward his, your eyes opening in reaction to the faint sting on your scalp. His eyes narrowing, he takes a step closer to you, filling the space between your legs that hang over the edge. "You don't need to know them," he whispers, a hollow air in his voice. His other hand cups your face, his thumb caressing your cheek. "They've only known fragments of you. But I..." he pauses, exhaling shakily, "I've loved every version." Silence settles in the air before, almost too quietly for you to hear, he says, "So this time, it should only be us."
