And what does Ekko do when he feels haunted by her ghost?
His solace.
The one that keeps her with him even when she’s not actually there.
His fingers twitch in defiance. Just a few inches away, he gets her. Gets every version of her he’s ever known, and every way he’s ever seen her. Every captivating smile, every teasing glance, every rebellious middle finger she’s thrown his way.
He shouldn’t, he really shouldn’t.
But god help, he reaches for it anyway– almost against his will.
He opens his sketchbook– the one he’s kept of her for many years– going through the countless new drawings he’s added since she’s arrived. He doesn’t have to wait until he runs into her in the lanes for him to get a glimpse of her. And so, with every thing she does that he can’t get out of his head, he draws it, capturing the moment in the only way he knows how to.
Even ink isn’t permanent enough in comparison to the big ‘Jinx’ engraved in him.

Ekko tried not to think too hard about who he’s holding onto. She was the same girl who’d killed his comrades right in front of him, the same girl he’d fought viciously time and time again for years. But she was also the same girl who once promised to teach him shooting if he helped her with hand-to-hand combat. The same girl who’d show up at Benzo’s for him, teary and furious when the older kids made fun of her broken gadgets.
This was Powder. And it was Jinx.
He couldn’t give up on her again.

His vision flickered, and for an instant two images seemed to merge in his brain: one, Jinx’s hand covered in paint, extended towards his own hand, and her eyes, shimmer-purple, showing a glint of mischievous glee in a well of poorly hidden pain; the other, Powder’s hand holding a lighting stick for him to light some incense at her little shrine to Vi, and her eyes, powder-blue, showing a well of kindness and a hint of worry.
Ekko felt both of his hands move, one towards each of them, and his chest felt like it was shattering, splitting apart, fundamentally being rent asunder, like when the anomaly took him.
And who knew for how long, he was stuck in those four seconds of time, in both realities, with both Jinx and Powder and alone at the same time.
