When Jax joins the circus, instead of adapting to the new environment, he immediately abstracts in front of everyone. This is canon divergent, so everything is the same up until Jax joins, but everything is different after he abstracts since Ribbit won't abstract due to his manipulation (and certain discoveries that Jax caused to be found out via butterfly effect won't be known.)
The circus is doing a lot better without Jax there, but not everything is perfect. Without Jax filling the role, something else will cause mayhem for the troubled circus members.
