We have a story to tell.
It is a story of five gods and four hearts; of their lands, champions, and children. Of their wishes, for survival or control; of the burdens they placed upon others. Of their regret and hatred, but of their hope and love in equal measure.
Of the Vessels they crafted to hold these things.
This is our story, as the daughters of Hallownest and Pharloom. We tell it for those who have found their peace.

The Pale King casts off his shell in the land of the Old Hearts, far away from the Light that would become his enemy and the Pale Root that would become his wife and queen. That Hallownest is not the kingdom he claims.

Summary
After the Hollow Knight's containment the Pale King finds out another way to deal with the infection.
However by that time Hallownest is at brink of downfall, leading them to another round of hardship to save it.
