“And why should I trust you for even a moment?” Caitlyn motions between the two of them, then scoffs. “ Why should I believe that you’ve suddenly turned a new leaf?”
“Who the hell said anything about that?” Jinx asks, bewildered. She drains her drink, then shoves her empty mug to the side, leaning her cheek on her fist. “Let’s not get things all jumbled up, here. I don’t like you; never have, never will. But, well, looking at the two of us, we can agree that my sister has shit taste in the people she keeps around herself, right?” She grabs her last macaron between her thumb and pointer finger, then turns it around as she closes one eye to peer at it. Instead of eating it, she tilts her head, then glances over at Caitlyn. “Look. We don’t have to be besties. I just want my sister to be happy.” Jinx leans over the table, then deposits the pale green macaron next to Caitlyn’s pastry, reaching into her pocket to pass over a bright blue sticky note. “My number, in case you decide you want to listen to reason.”
