Summary
Selective mutism is a severe anxiety disorder where a person is unable to speak in certain social situations, such as with classmates at school or to relatives they do not see very often.
It usually starts during childhood and, if left untreated, can persist into adulthood.
A child or adult with selective mutism does not refuse or choose not to speak at certain times, they're literally unable to speak.

Summary
Casita saw. Casita saw Mirabel’s hopelessness. Casita saw that Mirabel felt useless. Felt like she was a burden without a gift. Casita knew Mirabel would be great, but only if the family helped each other, talked and healed their cracks, like the cracks Casita had. Casuta didn’t know if it would be possible, as every family member had a problem, every family member had something that was wrong. So what did Casita do? Casita used the rest of her magic, even if the cracks were already there, to show them. Show them their problems. But first, Casita waited for the next day. The day after Antonio’s gift ceremony. No others than the Madrigals was supposed to see. So after Antonio’s gift ceremony, before the cracks got too much and the family couldn’t be fixed. Casita was sure, the family needed helping, and the help they would get.
Or, The Madrigal family reacts to the movie Encanto. Updates might be a little slow, school starts this week and I need to watch the movie a ton of times to get the right words and stuff. :)

Summary
After never receiving a gift like all of her siblings and cousins, Mirabel has tried her best to make the best of her life being normal. She's still a Madrigal. No matter how much her Abuela pushes her away. No matter how much her cousins look down on her. No matter how much Luisa ignores her. No matter how much Isabela scolds and bullies her.
As the years pass, it's almost like she's invisible in her own home. Hidden away behind the nursey door, no one except her parents wondered if she was okay. And even then, them being shooed away because "she'll be okay". As the years pass, it's like no one knows she's there anymore. And so, Mirabel decides for the better of her family and the Encanto to just go and stop being in the way.
(Mirabel runs away from the Encanto after being mistreated since her ceremony)

Summary
The Madrigals, as fantastical and far removed from reality as they are, live by two essential rules. They are as follows:
- Use your gift for the betterment of the village.
- Do NOT tell Mirabel the truth about her parentage.Given Mirabel's distinct lack a gift as well as her tendency to stumble into the truth, this proves to be difficult.
OR: in which Bruno is Mirabel's father.

“Not as bad as liking a criminal but still a little bad?”
“Yes! For example, maybe, kind of-” She points to the book he was reading. “Maybe, in some way, it was legally questionable to like the person?” she shrugs.
“Oh my goodness, you like someone that it is illegal for you to like!?” Luca gasps again.
“NO! Not LITERALLY! I meant it as an EXAMPLE!”
“So, the person-”
“NEVERMIND!” She stomps away. “Should’ve never even THOUGHT about coming to you for your opinion!”
“Illegal to like . . .” He looks down at the law he was just reading. “Oh . . .” The boy felt his heart sink deep into the pits of his stomach.
