I'm requesting a minifill based on this lyric from the Death Cab for Cutie song.
Suggestion: Postwar, Shepard is suddenly struck down by an aggressive disease. Everybody is shocked because she's certainly not "old" yet, and she's conquered Thresher Maws, Krogan warlords, Reapers, and even her own first death. It's unexpected to see her lose to a mundane illness. Everybody is so used to Shepard being the badass savoir that they find it hard to cope with seeing her so vulnerable. Many of the people in the waiting rooms are war heroes, but who has the guts to watch her die?
It can be about Thane, MShep or FShep. I don't care. Please just emphasize that watching somebody dying is a lot about uncomfortable waiting rooms, sleeping on pushed together chairs, crappy hospital food, and holding back tears.

Summary
In 2021, Earth was ravaged by an unknown genetic anomaly that targeted humanity. While it wasn't terminal, it did have one devastating consequence; it left humanity as a whole, sterile. With millions of people dying every year and their numbers dwindling, humanity became desperate for a cure of any kind. After years of research and experimental, genetic alterations, humanity regained the ability to reproduce, though at the cost of their previous definitions of gender. So was created, the Omegaverse.
Now, almost a hundred and sixty years past that point, the world is still trying to parse out their new designations and roles. So much of what was done in desperation is still being discovered and controlled, quantified and labelled. With almost two-thirds of Earth's population gone since then, and with an entirely new form of gender type, how will the Alphas, Betas and Omegas carve their places in society? And what will this mean for two men in particular who are still struggling with their pre-determined fates, Kaidan and Shepard?

Summary
John Shepard, Saviour of the Galaxy, has done the impossible, bringing together the disparate races and uniting them into a weapon against the greatest threat that they have ever faced. Now that the war is over, the survivors are left to pick up the remaining pieces, a task almost as onerous as the one they'd just left behind. Kaidan Alenko, John's lover and friend, is sifting through the rubble, trying desperately to search for the man who captured his heart. His reunion is short-lived however as new menaces arise, as they always do, and the galaxy is left stunned by revelations that may threaten to undo all that they have built since.
But now, Shepard isn't in a position to lend his strength in aid of the countless billions that have desperately relied on him in the past. This time, another of Shepard's crew must take on his mantle and unite the people before the new and sinister threat before it finally claims the lives of this cycle. Kaidan Alenko, the grudgingly reluctant hero, must do as Shepard had done before, traversing the galaxy and recruiting an army in order to save the life of his love again.

AU. In which Kaidan owns a bakery, falls in love with Shepard, and bakes the best steak pie in Vancouver. Not necessarily in that order. Three hours, two sudden downpours, and one missed bus after Shepard set out, he conceded to himself that he was well and truly lost. Although, admittedly, Garrus’s directions could have been better.

Summary
AU. The streetlight reflected against the surface of the downy, if crumpled, feathers and it was as though the light was coming from them. Each individual quill radiated sheer warmth, and Kaidan just wanted to run his fingers through the length of Shepard’s wingspan.
That wasn't a normal train of thought. Humans having wings was not normal.
In which Shepard is a guardian angel, and Kaidan is his charge.
