“I won’t stop you.” Santi boggles and Will tosses his head back. “They might. But I won’t, you’ve earned the chance.”
Santi’s mouth works but no sound come. His eyes burn with smoke, Will and his countrymen hazy in the destruction. Then Will sidles closer. Santi almost steps back instinctively but something tells him to hold his ground and Will grins again.
“You can take your chances with them,” he murmurs just loud enough for Santi to hear. “Or you can take your chances with me.”
