Oh god, it’s really Colt. He’s here. He’s outside my door.
Ryland gathers the ragged shreds of his courage, unlocks the door, and wrenches it open.
It takes his eyes a couple seconds to process the sight in front of him.
Colt’s standing with his arm raised like he was about to pound his hand against the door again, the other gripping a phone with white knuckles. He looks haggard, ruffled and panting, dressed in casual clothes. Backlit by the warm hallway lights, Ryland can make out a bandage across his nose and faint bruising under his eye.
He’s… literally the best thing Ryland has ever seen.

Ryland spends a week thinking his twin brother is dead. Right when he starts to fracture, Colt’s there to hold him together.

"Grace isn't an idiot. He knows Driver's past is muddy. He knows Driver can look after himself and has surely done terrible things to do it. Was probably taught terrible things from a very young age, while Grace's parents were teaching him how to build sand castles and swim.
But it's just a weekend. And Grace had asked once, weeks ago, if he still has to worry about the sorts of things Driver gets involved with, and Driver had told him no.
And Grace believed him.
Clearly, that was his first mistake."While Grace goes away for the weekend with Colt and Jody, Driver falls back into old habits. Grace is furious when he gets back — but failed to account for exactly how afraid Driver would be in the face of an angry man.

"Colt admittedly doesn't know much about Driver, but he does know that he's always on time. Obsessively so.
In all the movies they've worked on together, all the sets and shooting locations across the state and across the country, Driver is never late. He's usually precisely five minutes early, in fact — a fact it took Colt all too long to put together when he's rarely early enough to see Driver arrive.

Scruffy beard, glasses, hair in disarray. He's in a simple button-down and jeans, no place to hide any meaningful weapons, and faces away from Driver—exposes his vulnerable side, forgoes line of sight—to crouch in front of two boys who have been so silent he only now notices.
“C'mere,” the man mutters. He hoists one of them up and into his arms. The boy rests his cheek on the man's shoulder with a quiet sniffle, eyes squeezed shut. His small hands wrap around the man's nape in a death grip. He has a SpongeBob-patterned bandaid on his nose bridge.
The other boy grips onto the man's shirt hem with just as much vigor, though his eyes are wide open. He looks up at Driver with pointed eyes, clear and devastatingly full of suspicion.
They look at each other for half a moment of contemplative quiet.
Then, softly, “What floor?” Driver asks.
The elevator door closes.

Driver moves to the new apartment. Instead of Irene, his neighbor is kind teacher Ryland Grace with two twin younger brothers he's taking care of.

Summary
Colt Seavers had always had a strange relationship with his fellow stuntman known only as "Driver". Things only got weirder the night said stuntman showed up, bleeding half to death on Colt's doorstep in the middle of the night. After that, it seemed to become a pattern like taking in a stray animal.

Driver shows up to Colt's house for wound care after silently being obsessed with him, and the two fall in love.
