Summary
"Sweetheart, could I steal you away for a sec? or, like… fifteen minutes up to an hour?" Thomas calls from the other side of their flat. Edwin sighs, but it's good-natured, despite his lover not being around to see him do so. He's exhausted from staring at his screen, grading papers, some of which he suspects have been made with the help of an incompetent Artificial Intelligence, and he could use the break, or even the excuse to tuck in for the day. He's not a fool, either. This is wednesday, the light is a little golden, and it's five P.M., which is Meatball Shooting Designated Hour.
This has been a ritual for a few months, now. Each Wednesday, Thomas will set up shop in one of their offices with The Pest, and gently bully him into different parts of the room he'll have spent the first part of the week setting up, ringlights, everything ready to make the best pictures he can.
This time, Edwin joins.

There's a bang and a crash and a gasp and an arm that slams inches only from his fiancé's face in the middle of the night as Edwin wakes up with a start, heart beating furiously in his chest, temples and the very tip of his fingers. It takes a few seconds of heavy breathing to remember where he is : in his partner's arms, in their very bed, in their flat. The noise has probably only been made by Meatball, Thomas' idiot cat, the bane of Edwin’s existence. Thomas murmurs a short, dreamy reassurance and tightens his hold on Edwin's waist before nuzzling his upper arm sleepily.

“I have a few questions for you, if you could grant me a few moments of your time ?” The ghost comes strolling from the mirror in a shirt and slacks, sleeves rolled up to show very enticing forearms, without a care in the world for either the cold he cannot feel or Thomas’ self-control.
The Cat King turns his face toward Edwin, who is so much closer than he usually is.
“Uh… Okay ? shoot, I guess?”
This is indulgent and strange. When Edwin comes, he usually makes his visits known in advance and Thomas has the place a little more prepared for him. There is always a chair, for him to sit in, more decadent than his own throne : upholstered in a pine velvet, dark old wood shining with polish and magic.

Edwin has a very specific wooing plan in mind, something Thomas is very unaware of and very unprepared for, but it is said that Christmas time is a great time to start building a relationship. It has a success rate chance of 100% but to be fair, so would doing it from the inside of a dumpster, at this point. He's not doing that, we're talking about christmas cookies here, focus.

The first time their lips touched, Thomas had had to reach out, because Edwin had almost keeled over, utterly shocked. It’d been so long since he’d felt something good touch his skin. And Charles had said it when he’d kissed Crystal that first time, he could feel it in his head, if not on his lips. But when Thomas had touched Edwin, it was warm, and urgent, and he’d felt it in every inch of his body and his mind. Before any real feelings for the ruler besides a deep sense of friendship and appreciation, it was the lure of touch, of real skin on skin brushes, of pleasure, that kept putting Edwin on his path even though the bracelet was long gone, and the deal, dealt.

Edwin and The Cat King have engaged in a casual intimate relationship. Well, it's casual for Edwin, because the Cat King is actually pretty deep in this already. Each time they have sex, the ghost leaves without much in terms of tender touches or aftercare, and each time, breaks a little more of the King's heart in the process. Thomas is exhausted. The day has been shit, he's had two three-hours train rides in the span of eight hours total, and his suitcase is packed enough to kill his back every time he's had to lift it in stairs or because the cobbled stones made the lugging it behind him way too loud. He's sweaty and gross, and can't wait to come back home, shower, then shove his boyfriend on the couch to snuggle against him and complain about his work trip having been postponed while he was on the fucking train, and two hours and a half away already. Thankfully, he can come home to his boyfriend and cat, who will, hopefully, not have murdered each other in the eight hours he's been out.
He can't believe what he finds when he comes home. If anyone told him about it, he would have laughed in their faces, and called them an idiot to everyone he knows. As it is, he might just use it as blackmail material instead.

Summary
They've finally made it home, and they're doing well. The case load had grown with every passing day. It's been a while, but Edwin just can't get the Cat King out of his head.
Meanwhile, across the ocean, the royal subjects of the Cat King watch him pine. Every time he dies, his body goes through something that can only be called a heat. He just- keeps doing it alone, so his subjects, or namely one kitty named Buttons, gets so fed up with his pining that he takes initiative.
“What the fuck is going on-” the Cat King demanded, and he spun around, staring down at the throngs of cats. No one moved a muscle, not until Edwin took a small step forward.
“That would be about us.” He offered as calmly as he could.
Charles had heard the waver, though, tiny and almost unnoticeable to anyone but him, and he raised an eyebrow at Edwin knowingly. Edwin could almost hear his voice in his head as he said really mate, I can see it, but really?
The moment he spoke, the Cat King’s head turned and found him instantaneously. The Cat King smiled, and it was soft, “Edwin.” He breathed.
