She's almost smiling. Almost. Her lips and teeth move with lethal precision. "Right in front of you, they butchered that sweetheart. They eviscerated her thoroughly enough that there's no body left to bury. You know they did it; you saw it happen. Everybody knows they did it. And despite all that, they walked free."
Through the fog in his brain, Miguel puts the pieces together. “You think it’s my fault,” he says. The words leave his lips numb. “That your universe collapsed.”
“Are you saying it isn’t?”
“It was an—“ Miguel can’t force himself to say it. It’s so small, so petty in the face of what he’s done. Like crying; it won’t fix anything.
“An accident?"

Or: Miguel has gotten comfortable wallowing in guilt. But retribution is finally here. Someone has tracked him down, across years, across dimensions, determined to mete out justice of the bloodiest kind.
