Summary
"'I’m always nice to you, Casey,' he started. 'You might not realize it yet, but your life without me would be damn boring. And you don’t actually want that, even if it would be easier. You’ll realize it sometime, when you’re off in Toronto or New York or the other London. You’ll realize that all your best memories, all your funniest stories, from these years at least, involve me. I’m the best thing you’ve got going on, Case. Call me when you realize that. I’ll be here.'"
---
Derek wakes up after drinking more than a few too many and realizes that he really didn't say anything that bad to Casey. Still, it might be enough to set them down a once-unimaginable path. It'll be an uphill battle, though, because they're both idiots (as always).

Summary
Derek once read that a man never outlives his father. It seems true enough, 35 years later, true enough because at the end of the day it all comes back to him, to him marrying Nora, to him never thinking to ask that she didn't have any daughters it would be impossible not to fall in love with.

Let S_n act transitively on the set of TV finales where two characters who are in love with each other discuss in highly coded language the relationship they never had….
(I rewrote “same difference” to resemble the final scene from Community.)

Summary
“I let you go, Annie,” he said, and he honestly wants that to be true, but it’s truth is questioned by the hours he spends imagining how it would have gone if he had held on to her.

Summary
Jim and Pam had been divorced for exactly seven years when Pat Toomey announced his retirement. That didn’t prevent them both from getting the exact same idea.
This is going to include descriptions of political ideologies you do not agree with. I’m going to try to keep this as much about the characters as possible, but if you don’t want to read... don’t.

Title comes from an extremely underappreciated song by Gordon Lightfoot.
