Summary
It’s been a few hours since Martin piled all the tapes of Jon in his little witching circle around the coffin. He’s not sure why that was his solution, but he’s far past the point of questioning why any random idea occurs to him these days. The answer is usually Spooky. Besides, it’s not like he expects this to work. That would be too easy. Too good. And “good” doesn’t really happen to Martin or his people anymore.
Still, he can at least go re-start the tapes to feel like he’s doing something. They’ll have run out by now.
The last thing Martin expects is to step out of the Forsaken in Jon’s office and immediately trip and fall over a pile of dirt in the shape of a prone body. He lands in a half-dried puddle of muddy slime on the floor, ruining his expensive suit.
Joy at seeing Jon floods him in a tingling rush. It banishes every scrap of the Lonely's cold fog in an instant, leaving him feeling uncomfortably warm in a mess of all the emotions he's been pointedly ignoring. Foremost among them, concern which rapidly eclipses the joy.
Jon doesn’t even stir.

Martin lifts the lid off the box and stares down at the contents with approximately equal measures of reverence and revulsion, because that right there, that globby little sphere nesting in a little trail of neatly cut-off optic nerves, that’s his soulmate’s eyeball.

When Martin wakes up one morning with a blood-soaked pillow and a missing eye, he’s not as horrified as he perhaps ought to be, because he knows exactly what this means: he finally has a soulmate!

No, she woke up because it was quiet. Which obviously worried her, the hotel was never quiet.
