“I’m going to need a better explanation than that,” Jo interrupts, raising both hands to the edges of her glasses. She slides them down her nose, her expression unimpressed as she glares at Kate.
And okay, she isn’t really trying to make Kate speechless (she is) but it works just as well as she assumed—somewhere in the very back of her mind, of course—that it would. Kate gapes at her for a moment, blinking rapidly, as though she can’t quite believe this is real.
But then Kate’s blurting, “Can I take you for dinner?”
