“If it helps, it’s not anything creepy, it’s just me and him eating ice cream together.”
Another short pause. Then, slowly, “Huaisang, did you read my brother’s real-person self-insert fanfiction about you?”
There was an exaggerated cough on the other end before Nie Huaisang said, “Oh, look at the time! I’ve got to go, sorry!” And the line went dead.
Or: five times Lan Wangji attempts to convince others that Lan Xichen's obsession with Nie Huaisang is concerning, and one time he finally gives in and ships it.

Lan Wangji did not agree. He also did not have time to entertain a guest, having a strict training regiment to stick to. His uncle said they needed to welcome their guests. He did not say that lessons for the day were excused.
But then Lan Xichen nudged Nie Huaisang towards him, and Lan Wangji knew the moment to protest had passed.
Be a gracious host, the rules also said.

Summary
Nie Huaisang is a rich bachelor, living the high-life in Qinghe. He’s got a great job, a great apartment, a great sex life -- he has no complaints!
Then he runs into Lan Xichen at a bar, who, upon learning that Nie Huaisang is single, insists he knows just the thing to make his life perfect.
The next morning, Nie Huaisang wakes up in a bed that isn’t his, in a house that isn't his, next to a familiar face.
"Morning, Nie-xiong," Wei Wuxian greets him, just before a child crashes into the room.
"Baba! A-die!"
Oh no.

They decided on adoption.
Mr. Ouyang had been a friend of Nie Huaisang’s late father and didn’t live too far from the house Huaisang had grown up in. The baby would be his and his spouse’s only child. Nie Huaisang would be able to visit, if he wanted, and Jiang Cheng could go too.
It could be a semi-open adoption arrangement or not, whatever they all agreed they needed once the whole birth part actually happened. It made sense.
