That night at dinner, he sees Soda and Darry watching him closely, like how you’d watch a glass you knocked over, teetering on the edge of a table. As if Ponyboy is going to shatter now that he can’t scribble out his pain onto every piece of paper in the house.
But he doesn’t shatter. For the first time in a long while, he feels… maybe not good, but okay. Like maybe, someday down the road, he could feel good again.
