The full moon screws him over again: Remus misses the first week of lessons, starts term bruised, exhausted, and with a sense of smell turned up to bleeding. Now he can track every heartbeat in the carriage, every pulse of guilt, anger, or flustered teenage crush.
It should make him feel powerful. It just makes him feel seventeen, tired, and painfully aware that Sirius Black smells like pine, smoke, and everything Remus shouldn’t want.

He could smell James and Peter too, but Sirius was worse — or better, and that was the real problem. Every shift of his coat sent it rolling over Remus again: sharp earth, restless bark, the faint metallic tang of laughter on cold mornings. He smelled like the forest.
He smelt like home.
Remus’ head throbbed. His bones felt brittle. And beneath it all was the sour, private relief that Sirius couldn’t smell him back– couldn’t catch the sharp, hungry twist of scent in his sweat and know exactly what it meant.

Summary
His attention is snagged by the band again as the opening riffs to Van Halen’s Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love start to play. He’s immediately arrested by the band, who eat the instrumentals up. He’s still put off by the lead singer, but he doesn’t even care as his gaze is drawn back to the bassist immediately. He’s older, in his thirties at least, but it doesn’t take away from how arresting he is.
Marlene follows Sirius’ gaze to the band and does a double-take. “Holy shit,” she says, grabbing Sirius’ arm. “Babe, that’s my Lit professor!”
