Summary
It wasn’t working.
They had been fighting, and losing, a war with an immortal for three years. Well, five immortals if you count the remaining homunculi that fought. They had killed a few and even partnered with their enemies, yet still, they persisted. Still, they fought harder, smarter, and faster. Still, they were losing.
Ed felt sick to his stomach. If they didn’t activate Al’s array and initiate his plan now, everyone would be dead within the hour. “Come close, brother,” Alphonse poached. He saw the tips of his fingers collide with the edge of his alchemy circle, the light and the familiar hum of energy slowly building underneath them. The array was going to take a few seconds to activate, he gathered, and so he crossed their remaining distance easily. “Place your hand on mine; just for a moment. Then you can go, okay?”
And then, he’s enveloped in the darkness of space neither here nor there and ripped from his consciousness, and when he comes to, it's 1906.
