Summary
It was one thing to have a supposedly eight-day mission turn into a month-plus-change mission, it was quite another thing for the trip home to take three full days. First getting delayed by a scheduling conflict with her and Clint’s extraction, then by Clint insisting that they picked something up for Laura and the kids as an apology for the delay. Natasha couldn’t argue with that last bit, not when Clint thought all she had to go back to was an apartment, empty except for the cat that the neighbor was feeding while she was away.
He didn’t know any better, and that was on her. Natasha wasn’t ready for the conversation that would follow if she admitted she was living with James and their cats. Had been living with them for a while and seeing him for even longer. That she wasn’t going back to one of her safehouses or the quarters at the Avengers Tower that Tony insisted was her second home. That she was going home to the apartment she and James had bought together and filled with furniture for them and their cats. The only home she had ever known.

Summary
Ants can lift up to fifty times their body weight. Carina had learned that when she was around four or five year old. She used to kneel on the ground near the old orange tree in her nonno’s field and just stare at them, sometimes for hours at a time.
When Andrea died, oddly enough, Carina thought of the ants. He was heavy, when the paramedics lifted him up and into the ambulance. Humans aren’t able to carry as much as ants. Ironically, an average person can barely lift their own weight. Carina would have lifted his. She would’ve carried him on her back, she would’ve done it for hours, long after her legs cramped, long after the voices had quieted down. She would’ve carried him.

Carina had, until today, thought she wouldn’t be able to carry more than her own body weight, plus Andrea’s. Until, that is, a roof fell on her wife, and she was met with the real possibility that she would have to carry hers, too.or the mandatory maya gets hurt on the job fic. im so sorry.

❝Talk to me, please.❞ Carina begged softly, pleading desperately for her wife to snap out of whatever trance she was in. Maya was warm, beads of sweat on her pale forehead. Her eyes were glazed over, and her body was trembling furiously.
Just before Carina could ask what was wrong and why Maya wasn’t answering her, Maya’s shaky body slumped against hers. At first, Carina thought it was a hug. But as more weight was added all at once, Carina realized that something was very wrong.
