Summary
Chongyun knows he was born with congenital positivity. He knows evil spirits evade him because he’s overflowing with such an extreme excess of yang energy. He knows what his condition entails; knows what foods to avoid and what days to stay inside, to dress lightly, to shower only in cold water, to practice his breathing exercises consistently. He knows to keep a short lease on his emotions, lest they wrench themselves free of his control.
Knowing is different than accepting things as they are. Of course Chongyun isn't happy the way he is - playing catch up to a goal that never gets any closer, his pace or determination or endurance irrelevant when a lifetime of years has passed without a single sighting of an evil spirit by his own eyes. His failure is chronic, haunting his conscience, and as such doubts regarding his actual abilities have always existed, only ever able to be suppressed, never truly expelled. There’s only so much Chongyun can do to keep a glass filled to the rim with frustrations from flowing over. All it takes, perhaps, is having a question posed that he cannot answer:
Why do you call yourself an exorcist when you cannot exorcize evil spirits?
