Edit: I began this series as part of the MoxWrites prompt challenge, but since I failed at that, I'll continue with these early-days snippets of V and River.
Buckle up, this will get messy. My long-fic Ward Hill (2. A Night Under the Stars, 3. Birthdays are for Celebrating, and 4. Feels Like Home) is set one-year post-Mikoshi. This here piece, 1. No Regrets No Future, will feature snippets from V and River's life before they met, and the early days of their relationship.

It was so quiet here without his voice. She could almost imagine him now, lighting another damn cigarette as he told her “get the fuck up you lazy asshole, we gotta delta NOW”. But none of that came. There was no cigarette smoke ghosting around his figure in the corner of the room as she tried not to glance in his direction. No deep voice ringing out to comment on what was happening or what they should be doing. He was gone. And it hurt.
When V wakes up after Mikoshi, she isn't given a choice. Leave Night City or risk getting caught by Arasaka in the fallout of her attack on the Corp. After a year of borrowed time, she's dragged back to Night City with one goal in mind. Bring down the Save Your Soul project for good, and let Arasaka burn.
