There was no cigarette smoke ghosting around his figure in the corner of the room as she tried not to glance in his direction. No deep voice ringing out to comment on what was happening or what they should be doing. He was gone. And it hurt.

I met eyes with a few; there were around 10 of them, adorned in the best cybernetics and fashions that eddies could buy. Some of them flinched under my stare, others didn't, choosing to hold it. I could imagine what I looked like to them; a creature in a glass cage, like the animals in 'zoo's' that you sometimes saw in old flicks. I hadn't really understood that concept at the time, hell, what was the purpose of a town of unhappy animals? Well... now it was starting to make sense. It was all about power."

With V, it starts small. A friendly smile here, a sarcastic text there. She's always helping and always genuine and he... he likes her. Really fuckin' likes her. She's sharp and tough and compassionate. And he doesn't know when he starts falling for her, but what he does know is this: he'll do anything to give her hope and happiness and a life filled with family.
