Summary
Waking up two years before their adventure even began was a surprise. The Straw Hats have to find each other again and make their way back to the New World and their dreams. Summary
“What did you pray for?” Shanks asked, poking at the baby fat filled cheek. Luffy swatted at him with a scoff.
He pursed his lips, “For Ace.” He said, casually, like it hadn’t swept the rug from out under Shanks and caused his gait to falter, entirely. He was frozen, in response. Luffy continued for several seconds until he realised the adult at his side was no longer there. He turned, perplexed, watching Shanks with a befuddled expression. Shanks held no rebuttal. “What’s wrong?”
“Why…” he almost didn’t want to ask. “Why Ace?” Luffy’s stare was long and hard. And for the first time, since meeting Luffy on that fateful day, all the way past the chaos of the Grandline, in the waters of the East Blue—Shanks could not place the expression that overtook Luffy’s supple features.
Alternatively, the story where Shanks and Luffy take steps on an arduous path to closure.

“Thanks then, Zoro!” With that, he jumps up to his feet, and without a word, is dragging his brothers away. Zoro blinks bemusedly. Seems they have somewhere to be. Or something. He really has no idea.
Zoro gets up and starts making his way towards his towel, then freezes.Wait.

Summary
Pain.
Pain is the only thing Luffy knows upon waking up. His chest is on fire, his head is throbbing, his limbs are so sore they may as well be falling off – though that seems like it would hurt less than this.
He scrunches his eyes shut, desperately hoping that that action will help relieve some of the pain –he knows it doesn’t work that way, but he can still hope.
Other sensations come next – the soft scratchiness of the sheets under his back, the tight bandages covering every inch of him, the warmth surrounding his left hand, resting on the bed beside him.
Wait...warmth?
(Luffy shoves Ace out of the way, and takes Akainu's attack. He lives, and things may not be good yet, but, for the two brothers who love each other more than anything, they will be.)

Summary
“You’re the brat’s favorite,” Garp says, in the tone of voice he uses when he thinks someone’s stupid. Ace normally rears up in anger when he uses that tone, but this time, what Garp said has him blinking at him in shock.
Ace says blankly, “I’m his favorite?” Well, Ace guesses, it does make sense – Luffy doesn’t really have anyone else that stays with him. Garp’s never here, Dadan doesn’t really care about them, or at least not enough to stay around them all the time, and Makino- well. She’s amazing, but she can’t be there all the time. Still, though- “Why?”
This time, Garp turns around fully to look at Ace. “Why?” He asks incredulously. “You’re his brother and he loves you, duh.”
Ace’s brain stalls.
