Enjin pouts as he leans against the doorway, his shoulders spanning most of the frame.

“And I don’t need to know,” Gris says patiently, smiling as Enjin further smooshes his lips in a pout. “It’s the first Friday of the month, and you want me to race Sheila. No.”

“It frightens me a bit that you love me,” Suguru admits, “despite the fact that it doesn’t frighten me at all to love you back. Not anymore.”
Satoru frowns. “Not anymore?” he mutters.
Suguru squeezes his hands and steps forward, but just barely. “I had convinced myself, at one point, that love could only end in death,” he says quietly. “That it wasn’t worth the pain.”
Satoru’s chest tightens.
“But life ends in death no matter what we do, and I’ve come to realize that pain is a small price to pay if I get to love you while I have the chance.”
