Summary
“Ah, daozhang, no need to act so coy! We’re all adults here!” The farmer says with a wink. When no reply comes from Xie Lian the old man looks at a loss. After a moment he glances over his shoulder to check the empty road behind them and adds in a low voice. “Daozhang, we’re all adults who know the ways of the world. My wife clearly heard the sounds of two people…erm, taken in amorous delight, coming from your shrine.”
The sweat dampening Xie Lian’s forehead from the effort of scrap-collecting turns icy. His mouth has a foul acrid taste and it takes him a while before he can open it to reply. “It was not San Lang and I,” he says and the bitterness is so heavy in his heart that he doesn’t find room to be embarrassed about the topic. “San Lang has a beloved person he’s been longing for, he must have found them at last.”
OR
A villager hears sounds of dubious nature coming from Xie Lian's shrine and congratulates him for finally getting together with Hua Cheng. Unfortunately, nothing has happened between the two and Xie Lian is left to stew in vinegar.

Summary
With an impending wedding dangling over his head like a blade, Xie Lian resorts to doing what he’s been most adept to his whole life: study.
Unlike during his college years, though, this time studying takes the form of a subscription to an adult streaming channel. The name of its host is evocative enough to put his embarrassment to silence: Hua Cheng.
orTo save his family from bankrupcy Xie Lian accepts an arranged marriage to Jun Wu. Since his future husband makes it clear that he expect their marriage to not only be an agreement on paper, Xie Lain decides to make up for his inexperience in bed by watching some adult streams by a famous camboy, Hua Cheng.

Summary
Right outside the door to my bedroom a fragrant plate of sweets awaited me, simple and inviting like a pleasant memory of childhood (or what I suppose those to be).
They were arranged tastefully but with no fanfare, as if welcoming a hand to disassemble their poise without invoking the guilt that comes with ruining a beautiful thing. I found it an agreeable little move and, with my curiosity piqued, I retreated inside my study with the plate and its sly arrangement in hand.

Summary
Acquaintances of various nature had come to know him as the God of Misfortune. The nickname took root and spread like plague as it often happened that, when he was spotted talking to someone, that person’s beloved partner could start expecting an unpleasant break-up in the next few hours.
His appearance in one’s closeness was ominous and disaster itself was spurred by the tapping of his fingers on the greasy, cracked glass of a borrowed phone. A text from him was commonly received with curses and spurn: a god of goodwill made grim reaper against his desires. It was no good sign that he often walked around with a broom in his hands as if ready to beat the good luck out of anyone he encountered.
or: Xie Lian becomes a ghost writer for his friends' break-up texts. Shi Qingxuan asks him to help a friend break up with his partner, Hua Cheng.

Summary
The silvery glint of a blade was all Xie Lian saw before the unmistakable cold bite of metal pressed against his throat. Not again, he thought, slowly turning towards the hilt and the pale hand holding it. As he moved, the blade shifted almost imperceptibly, easing its vice just a breath as if allowing him to turn without cutting through flesh.
The tinge of surprise he felt was quickly replaced by a rush of stupor when he lay eyes on the man who held the weapon tight in his grip. The Ghost King’s appearance truly was as formidable as they said.

Summary
These are MXTX's early works from when she was still a student. They were published in 2013-2014 in a magazine called “Super Nice”《超好看》. She wrote a total of five short stories, each around a few thousand words. All bearing elements of drama, horror, death, and complex character relationships that you can find later in her novels. These short stories are not particularly well-known and have never been translated before.
Someone compiled these shorts together in a book on JJWXC, and we've decided to translate them together.The Chinese compilation can be found in the Notes.

It seems that, when it came to saving one another, Hua Cheng and Xie Lian were growing to be experts.
Or the one where Xie Lian is a mermaid, and Hua Cheng grows up to be the most notorious ghost pirate who happens to reside in Xie Lian's cove. Purely by coincidence.

Summary
On cue, a series of hasty knocks sound on the prince’s cabin door. Xie Lian allows his features to relax into a dejected expression before he stands up and opens the door. Two royal guards greet him with panic-stricken faces.
“My prince, our ship is under attack,” one of them informs, bowing his head in respect. “We advise you not to come out of your chambers until we rid the ship of all threats.”
“I see,” Xie Lian mumbles softly, bowing his head in return, even though he’s of a much higher status than his guards. Nevertheless, they are the ones who dedicate their lives to ensure his well-being. “Who has invaded our ship?”
Both guards share a nervous look, then turn toward their prince with a newfound urgency.
“Crimson Rain,” the second guard says gravely.

“Why the fuck are you apologizing to them?” Mu Qing snaps. “Do you recall the part where we’re their unwilling captives?”
“Politeness never hurts,” Xie Lian says.
“I have a hard time believing no one would want you back, gege.” Hua Cheng’s words are spoken in almost a purr. Xie Lian sees He Xuan give Hua Cheng a subtle pinch on his upper arm—though, to the captain’s credit, he doesn’t even flinch.

Summary
Faced with such odd behaviour, Xie Lian couldn’t help but worry. As he took a deep breath to calm himself, a sweet scent suddenly assaulted his nose; an aroma that he was shamefully familiar with. It wasn’t long before he realized that it was coming directly from the man in front of him.
All of him, really. His breath, his clothes, his hair—Hua Cheng reeked of it.
“Oh, you’re…” Xie Lian said quietly. “You’re drunk, aren’t you?”
In an over-the-top show of gratitude, Hua Cheng eagerly downs the whole jug of wine Xie Lian had thoughtfully given to him.
