Bilbo does not have time to find his ring in the forest before the company is captured by elves. Surprised to find a hobbit in their midst, the elves bring Bilbo before the elvenking for questioning. Stoic silence isn't really Bilbo's thing, but once he realizes lying isn't all that different from telling a story, he's got a plan.
In which Thranduil is either a huge romantic or looking to cause trouble, Dwalin is confused, and Bilbo knows that the best stories begin with a kernel of truth.

Summary
There hasn't been a male bearer (omega) among dwarves since the Second Age. That doesn't stop Dwalin, of all dwarves, from presenting as one. Now he has to deal with the consequences.
No one was surprised when Bilbo presented as a sire (alpha) just like his mother. But then Bilbo learns a hard truth about adventure--it can break your heart. He doesn't want to be like his mother, anymore.
When they meet, neither Dwalin nor Bilbo knows what to think of the other. Luckily, their adventure will give them plenty of time to learn.

“Are you trying to get killed, Potter?” Malfoy drawls, stalking forward. Quick as a serpent himself, he reaches out and grabs the snake just below the head. It thrashes in his grip, but is no longer able to bite anyone. “This is a poisonous snake, and I doubt anyone brought a bezoar with them.”
Harry glares. He opens his mouth, and feels the beginning the snake’s language pass his lips, and this isn’t what he wants, what’s the point of insulting Malfoy if he can’t understand him –
Malfoy’s eyes widen. He slaps his hand over Harry’s mouth, “Potter, what the hell–”
