Summary
"Sorry." Buck shifts his weight, folding his arms and drawing in his shoulders, missing the attempt to look unassertive by a mile. “Is there a problem?”
She doesn’t answer Buck’s question, which by itself can be assumed as answer enough. “Were you aware that while partners are allowed, couples are not?”
“Yeah?” Buck’s voice climbs at the end, mirroring the same confusion Eddie feels painted over his features.
“Then you understand why we have to disqualify you.”
Spoiler alert: they're not a couple. (yet)

Summary
Buck’s not really sure what to say here, so he doesn’t say anything. For a minute they stand there in total silence, the TV muted, and looking at Eddie – the defeated slump of his shoulders, the hand over his mouth, the eyes staring blankly at nothing – it’s like those modern art installations one of Buck’s exes used to take him to: Man, with broken heart.
Man, eviscerated.
Buck’s no good with people being sad around him – it always feels like his responsibility, like if they aren’t smiling it’s his fault, and this time it really is his fault, at least partially, so he offers, “You can beat me up, if it would make you feel better.”

Summary
"D'you know Eddie?" Buck asks. His eyes are huge and earnest. It's not often these days that Eddie gets to see him this unguarded. Just needed to get him stoned out of his mind on painkillers, apparently. He's probably got a prescription in that stack of papers Eddie took. Maybe Eddie can run out and fill it for him while he sleeps. "He's my best—my best friend."
Eddie's heart does something traitorously squishy that he hopes doesn't show on his face. "Feeling's mutual, bud. Come on, lie down, sleep it off for a little bit, okay?"
-
Or: Buck confesses something he doesn't mean to while on painkillers. Eddie spirals about it.

Summary
“Can I be a little brash?”
He swallows, nervous. “Shoot.”
In a move he will shortly regret, he lifts his beer and takes the final sip of his drink.
“Eddie, I’d like to go home with you. You’re the hottest guy I’ve seen this entire night, and my lovely lesbians have abandoned me.”
He blinks, stunned. The final sip of his beer stalls halfway to his mouth.
“And I gotta be honest … I’ve never really felt like three is a crowd, you know? So, if your friend is of that … persuasion, I wouldn’t mind the extra company.”
Eddie chokes, coughing hard enough to draw a few looks. Then, recovering semi-quickly, he stammers out, “Uh– ha. Well. I– I don’t think he’d– I don’t know if it’s his speed– or, uh–”
“We can ask!”
or how to only kind of have a threesome.
