Deep in his mind, Near knew that he couldn't stand a chance against Mello under the rules of the real world. Now forced to play outside of the safe confines of the orphanage, he finds the one and only way to get under Mello's skin.
Note: Matt, Mello, Near and Gevanni are characters from the manga 'Death Note'. I'm in no way affiliated with that franchise.

Summary
The chances of Matt succeeding L are 0%, for a myriad of reasons. If Mello beats Near to Kira and properly succeeds L, though? No Wammy kids have ever considered nor desired such a thing, but Matt would consider himself the successor to Watari in that case. And he wouldn't have it any other way.

Summary
Sometimes Matt just wants to exist in the same space as Mello without any effort, just hang around and do what he does normally with Mello in the background, so he doesn’t have to miss him. But then Mello ruins it, because nothing is ever enough for him. He gets what he wants, but it doesn’t fill that yawning hole inside him, so he’s immediately chasing after more, more, more.
