Powder’s eyes went wide as she read the large letters printed on the paper that Ekko had shoved in her face. He was practically vibrating with excitement, unable to hold back his wide smile as he waited for his best friend to finish reading.“Powder this is our chance to make something super cool! I just know we can win!” Powder met his eyes, her face now matching the excitement on Ekko’s features.
“Yes, yes, omg yes! Let’s do it! I have so many ideas already! We could build the fastest scooter ever! Or a monkey toy that moves on its own! Or a pair of super cool boots! Or…”

“You know what I mean.”
He snickered, shaking his head, but the smile slipped from his lips as they settled into a neutral line. He leaned on his cane to look up at the sky.
“I don’t. I mean, not really. People think it’s this majestic, all knowing force, but it’s a lot more like a child, always watching, always learning. When it connects with us, it tunes into every fiber of our being. It doesn’t know anything at first, we shape it with our every thought, our every use, every action. We’re its compass, moral or otherwise. You know what they say, what goes around comes around, that’s very literal here. I just…learned that a lot sooner than others do. They take from the world, so it learns to take. I give of myself, and only myself, so it gives in return…"
He glanced down at his hands, examining them carefully as they glowed faintly in the moonlight.
"...at least, that’s what I tell myself. That’s what I hope is the truth.”
