"Wow, dude, this thing is awesome. Does it generate its own electricity?" Peter flipped the hammer once in the air and caught it, watching in amazement as sparks danced over it. "Like, I know you're the god of thunder, but I didn't know your hammer had magic powers too! That is so cool. I want one. Like, I won't get it, obviously, 'cause I don't want to steal your thunder—no pun intended.”
He grinned at his totally-intended pun, but Thor didn't react. Not even a twitch of the lips.
“Okay, yeah, that was a dumb joke,” Peter admitted. “Sorry. Here's your hammer, Mr. Thor.” He held out the weapon to its rightful owner.
Thor just stared.

Summary
“Today is a remarkable day in history!” Doom announced, lifting his arms to the sky. "For today, the rule of the Avengers ends! Today...the rule of Doom begins!"
Not a single person present, whether they were shaking uncontrollably in the crowd or raising their arms in victory as electric sparks rained down around them, really knew what quite to expect next. But what did happen next, nobody possibly could have anticipated.
Someone laughed.
It was just a little snicker, something that normally would've been lost in the din of the crowd, but it rang like a gunshot in the deafeningly quiet street.
Doom had to scan the crowd for several tense seconds before he finally located him. The grinning teenage boy, shaking with poorly repressed laughter.
When he noticed Doom staring at him, he only laughed harder.
“I--I'm sorry, Doom?” he managed to get out, between gasps for breath. “That's what you decided to call yourself? Doom?”
(Doctor Doom, in defeating the Avengers, finds himself facing a new, unlikely challenger.)

Owen turned to send an amused glance in the direction of his rambling rescuer, but froze as he caught sight of the large, white bug-eyes.
Red-and-blue full-body suit. Mask concealing his identity. Spider emblem on his chest.
Now, this one he knew. This one everybody knew.
“Spider-man?” Owen squeaked. “You—I—you're real?”

"It's not."
Jason swallows thickly, "What?"
"My parents death is not the worst thing to ever happen to me," Bruce reiterates, as calm as Jason has ever seen him, eerily indifferent to the topic. But it's his eyes that remind Jason of the situation at hand, the way they're wide and glassy, pale blue eyes screaming for the words to stop.
They don't stop; "Losing you," Bruce continues, unblinking to Jason's expression of absolute horror, "Is the worst thing to ever happen to me."
Pain should not be quantifiable. It's with sinking hatred and pity, does Jason realise, guilt shouldn't be measurable either.
(Batman is hit with truth serum, Jason reacts to the consequences.)

“What were you expecting, Alf?” Jason asked. Alfred’s fingers twitched, and Jason felt like he’d been lectured, for being so over-familiar.
“In my experience, prodigal children usually prefer to come roaring back on a motorcycle,” Alfred said. He made no effort to assist Jason with his suitcase. “It’s nicely dramatic.”
