Summary
From the first time they met, Peter Sutherland knew he was willing to die for Rose Larkin, first in the name of duty, then in the name of love. But Peter was always more concerned about Rose dying for him, something he could never live with, and wanted to prevent at all costs. So he told her to forget him, believing it was the only way to eliminate the risk and danger knowing him brought. Peter seemed to forget that life, even a normal one, always contains the potential for damage and loss. Life is about to remind him that nothing can be guaranteed, and learn how he reacts when trading his life for Rose's life is not an option.

Rose sighs. Her eyes start to tear up and she can feel the words, 'You aren’t,' sitting bitter and sharp on her tongue. Then something inside of her snaps, shoving through all the fear and the exhaustion she’s been feeling the last few days. “No. Fuck that.” It comes out louder than she intended.
His eyes snap up to hers from their entwined hands. “Pardon?”
