Willow exhaled, resting her temple against the glass and closed her eyes. Hunter didn’t believe for a second that she would fall asleep, as her body remained coiled with tension.
“He just...” She whispered. “...wanted to see this world so much.”
Hunter could see it in that smile, in those weary eyes, hear it in her heavy voice.
Willow was absorbing Gus’s burdens to lighten his load. It was quite possible she was doing the same with everyone who surrounded her.
This left her own burdens neglected.
He understood how it felt to devote your entire self to the monsters that plagued the life of someone else. It withered away every fragment of yourself that belonged solely to you.
“Like you wanted to see the rain.” Hunter reminded her.
It must be a little bittersweet for Willow too.

From where she’s lying, she can see the starry night right outside the huge windows, every time the desert wind lifts the curtains. It carries with it the scent of the city, still charred after years of war and pain, leaving the aftertaste of ruins and dust and smoke on her tongue.
