Then Stiles hears the growl, familiar and furious.
“Oh shiitake mushrooms,” Stiles groans, turning around. “Heeeeey Derek. Isn’t it a little past your bedtime?”
Derek looks as pissed as Stiles has ever seen him and it kind of gives him a little bit of satisfaction, so he snuggles closer to Ricky. Derek bares his teeth at them, thankfully still human and his nostrils flare wildly.
“You’re drunk,” Derek accuses him flatly.
“You’re drunk,” Stiles tells Derek nonsensically.
“This is the ‘not boyfriend’ I’m guessing?” Ricky looks down at Stiles, eyebrow cocked.
Derek full on snarls at that and for the first time in forever, Stiles starts to worry he might lose control of the shift.

Summary
Stiles thought the Blind Date With a Book trend was a great way to drum up business for his small bookshop. He definitely thought it was a great idea after the hot guy kept returning and buying more blind dates with books.
Derek didn't know how he kept getting set up on blind dates by his family, or why he kept going on them. The highlight of his night was when the date was over and he could go to the little bookshop in town and buy something to read for the rest of the night. He wanted to read, not date.

When Derek made no move to take it at all, the other kid grabbed Derek's hands and put the pin in his palm.
"You're my hero today, so this is a thank you," he smiled sheepishly. "It can even be a promise! You'll give it back to me when we both become cops and we are partners. I gotta go! Bye!"
Derek watched the kid go, bewildered, before gazing at the pin in his hands. He squeezed it tightly.In which Derek has been stuck on his first love for eighteen years. Then he meets Stiles (again).
