Summary
One time, several years ago, my friend posted a call to prayer for those inclined to that sort of thing. For those of us not inclined to pray, he asked for a short story set in the year 2492 featuring a battle between the MegaPope and the Archbishopbots of Canterbury, York, and Wales.
I entered a fugue state and sent him this story a few hours later.
I think it's the best thing I've ever written.

Whilst the grief stricken and ever-changed Sindri isolates himself in a haunted house of his own making, a human breaks into not only the Realm between Realms, but also his solitary life. Insisting that they themselves wish nothing more than to retrieve their own dead family, he sets about to aid the human, providing his services one last time in creating an offering worthy for a goddess in exchange for their souls in return.
… Let’s just say he gets more than he bargained for.

When Izuku turned four, he waited. And waited and waited and waited. Kacchan did, too, all popping palms and sharp eyes, hoping that his quirk would be stronger.
Izuku wouldn't have minded if his was.
He couldn't decide what was worse, remembering the last hug his mother gave him, or knowing that by his own hand, by the monster that had curled around his fingers and settled in his very being, he'd felt that warmth for the last time.

“Deku is cool, too,” Ikki said defensively. Just like that, all traces of tears were gone as he recognised just who it was in front of him: a fellow fanboy.
(Or: Midoriya has a bad habit of interacting with hero fans without letting them that he's Deku, the current Number One.)
