Julius Caesar studies me closely for a moment and a subtle smile plays around his lips. "I can still remember our encounter in Rome, Cleopatra, you were just a little girl, but even then you looked at me with those shining, curious eyes. "
"I was probably fascinated by your penetrating gaze, Imperator, and wanted to imitate it."
He laughs. "Not only beautiful, but also eloquent. Call me Caesar - and I'll call you Cleopatra, if I may, Your Majesty."
He looks at me pointedly and I nod in agreement. His charm is disarming - of course!
In 48 BC, young queen Cleopatra VII was fighting a civil war against her brother Ptolemy XIII. While she and her army were besieging the border fortress of Pelusium, the roman general Gaius Julius Caesar landed in the Egyptian capital Alexandria. Cleopatra knows that her recognition as Queen of Egypt depends on the goodwill of Rome. She decides to put all her stakes on one card and plans a secret meeting with the famous and notorious general on the enemy's territory.

In addition, there are chapters from the perspective of the court lady Charmion, the minister Potheinos and Princess Arsinoe - as well as a few scenes that round off and complement my novel "Cleopatra - Song of the Pharaohs".
