When he returns home intending to declare himself to his lady love, he finds Audrey in distress at the news that her estranged husband, Robert, is dying in hospital in Scarborough. The vet breaks his personal vow to avoid doing business on the Black Market so that he can drive Audrey to Scarborough. They return home to find Gerald on their doorstep.
