It breaks them, steals them, paints them red, and occasionally convinces them to want exactly what they shouldn’t.
Max Hatter’s heart is currently occupied by Chloe Charming, despite his best efforts to convince everyone—and perhaps himself—that rejection hasn’t ruined him. Truly, he’s over it.
Pink Hearts would simply like someone to remember she has a heart at all.
Then Pink finds a strange crystal at her mother’s party.
Then she finds Max.
One whispers everything she tries not to think.
The other, unexpectedly, listens.
And Pink is beginning to suspect one of them is going to get her into serious trouble.
Especially when one decides her and the alleged “bad boy” of Auradon should fake date for each other’s convenience.

Pink Hearts and Max Hatter had spent years perfecting the art of getting under each other's skin. One could even say Pink—with all her spectacular eye rolls, sharp-tongued comebacks, and the occasional not-so-accidental shoulder check—had mastered every stroke needed to sketch the outline of their rivalry.
The trouble was, somewhere along the way, those same strokes had begun tracing little hearts instead. Ones she'd buried beneath layers of hatred, with M + P tucked neatly in the middle where no one—not even Max—would ever find them.
Pink had always thought the worst thing that could happen was Max Hatter discovering she'd liked him all along.
Then she started coughing up flower petals.
