Looking down at your slightly mangled limbs you see that they’re not human limbs. Not anymore.
You feel your face with your hands, or paws, or whatever they are now. Two eyes, a nose, a mouth, a snout? What’s happening? You frantically look around, you’re in some semi-tropical, hilly, mountainous expanse, and in front of you is…what the fuck.
You’re dead. You’re dead or you’re dreaming. Because in front of you is Sonic the Hedgehog.

“Oh…okay, no, that's fine. That's—” Maddie swipes a hand over her face and glances over her shoulder briefly as if someone is supposed to be standing there.
A curl of unknown guilt thrums through him. “Am I supposed to know you?”
Maddie looks back at him, her eyes pinched slightly. “'Supposed to?' No. But it would make this a little easier if you did.”
Shadow's ears press back at the insinuation that he's failed them all in some way.
Maddie rests her hand on the couch, careful not to touch him directly. “What's the earliest thing you remember?”
There's the flash of stars, scattered lights, an unfolding nebula tangled in the dark blanket of space, twisting end over end. The gold of his Limiter glints sharply, like light spilling over the curve of the planet.
“Falling...”
