As teenagers, they meet for the first time under the moonlight.
In both encounters, he fell in love with the boy who in his eyes seemed to shine like the sun.

Wei Ying paused. As if he needed a moment to hold his breath.
“‘Signed’,” he said, “‘the boy who loves you’.”
Wei Ying stared down at the paper for an extra moment. Lan Zhan heard his brother inhale sharply from behind him as if he was surprised, as if he hadn’t just advocated for a love letter to be read aloud.
Lan Zhan wanted to burrow into the earth. He wanted to find a shovel and dig so deep that the molten core of this planet burned him alive.
“Lan Zhan,” Wei Ying cheered, looking up at him with the most beautiful smile. “You have a secret admirer!”
